Boys, Let Me Down Easy - Murder and Lawlessness in a Small Town by Cindy Schott and Kathy Schott Gates
On May 31, 1882 in Lawrence, Kansas, David Bauseman made plans to meet with Sis Vinegar, a local girl known to engage in prostitution. During the meeting David Bauseman was attacked, murdered, and robbed and his body tossed in the Kaw River. The killers were Sis's boyfriend George Robinson and his friend Issac King who were arrested after the body was found. Also arrested was Sis's father Pete Vinegar who had nothing to do with the robbery and murder. On June 10 a mob stormed the Lawrence jail and dragged the three men to the river and lynched all three of them from the bridge.
