The Discovery of the Sea by J. H. Parry
The purpose of this book is to narrate and explain the principal events of the “great age of discovery.” In the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, Europeans gained access, in a series of tremendous voyages by sea, to great areas of the world formerly unknown to them, or if known, inaccessible: souther and eastern Africa, southern and eastern Asia, and the Americas. This is the aspect of discovery which has chiefly caught the attention of historians and of their readers.
